GREENE TOWNSHIP, PIKE COUNTY -- Fire Chief Terry Walck was shocked to learn the Promised Land Volunteer Fire Company in Pike County had money missing.
"It's tough, it's very tough," said Walck. "It takes long hours to try to do a lot of little things to make a little money."
Walck says tens of thousands of dollars is gone, and that number could reach six figures in the end.
"We're going to look to the community and township supervisors and hope we can all come together," Walck said.
The PLVFC isn't the first local volunteer fire company to have money stolen from within, and the residents here hope it changes.
"It's been all over the news in Northeast PA," said Jack Quin, a Promised Land resident of 16 years. "It seems to me where this occurs, only one person is handling the money, and there are no checks and balances."
Walck says they're considering policy changes. Now, he just hopes the community continues giving support as the fire department tries to stay afloat.
"But, obviously, as small as the community is, you get the same people all the time," said Walck. "And you can only ask them for so much support."
The fire company and state police are not releasing the name of the person responsible, as the investigation continues. | |
