WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A Red Cross volunteer is going to prison for stealing relief supplies.
Chris Panko will serve 4 to 9 years behind bars. He was convicted of stealing $7,000 of disaster relief supplies for flood victims in 2006.
The judge says he handed down a stiff sentence because Panko victimized a charity. Amy Gabriel of Red Cross Emergency Services said. “The trust of so many people was violated, not just our office, it's about all the people who came to our community in June of 2006 to support our flood effort."
Panko will serve his sentence in state prison.
