Volunteers Help Firefighters Cope With Heat - Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 6:15PM EST

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Three homes are badly burned and 28 people were forced out of their homes in Scranton Tuesday.
It started in the 900 block of Monroe avenue just after 11:00 A. M. It quickly spread to two other homes. Six families in transitional housing were among those forced out. Everybody got out safely.

But one firefighter was taken to the hospital. He's okay. There's still no word on the cause.

Dozens of volunteers showed up to help firefighters, who had to battle the heat and the intense flames for hours and hours.
