MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- At least one voting machine wasn't doing its job when the polls opened this morning.
The optical scanner at the Moosic Municipal Building didn't recognize ballots as they were turned in. In Lackawanna County voters fill in bubble sheets, then the machines scan the ballots and register the votes.
But the hiccup doesn't mean votes aren't counted. 3rd Ward of Moosic Judge of Elections Don Frederickson said, "We've had to use the emergency slot underneath to hold them until somebody from the county comes to fix it.
Frederickson says this is the first problem they've had in three years of using optical scanners. Around 8:00 A. M. an elections worker fixed the scanner, and things were back to normal. | |
