W-B Area School Board President Resigns

W-B Area School Board President Resigns - Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 6:25PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- The President of the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board resigned Tuesday. It comes in the middle of a federal corruption probe of the district.
James Height has been on the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board for 8 years and was running for a third term.

He was not at Monday night's school board meeting. We were told he was out of town on business. Sources within the district tell the I-Team height delivered the resignation letter to the school district Tuesday morning. The exact content of that letter is not known, but we do know the resignation takes effect immediately.

Height has denied any connection to the ongoing federal probe, but sources close to the investigation tell the I-Team he was given a target letter by the F. B.I. and has been questioned by federal agents.

All of this comes just weeks after fellow school board member Brian Dunn was charged with allegedly taking bribes in a pay for jobs scheme in the district.

Last month, Superintendent Dr. Jeff Namey testified before a federal grand jury and turned over school district records.
