W-B to Sell Two Closed Firehouses

W-B to Sell Two Closed Firehouses - Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 7:57PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY-The Wilkes-Barre City Council gave the "go ahead" to sell two controversial properties.

They are former fire houses. One is on Conyngham Avenue the other on Northampton Street. Neighbors hoped the two stations would re-open someday.

However city officials told WBRE News that's highly unlikely because it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

City Councilman Bill Barrett said, "The City Council and administration both agree that we want to find a use that is conducive to the neighborhoods there."

Barrett also said that the property along Northampton Street is being looked at for a fitness center and the one on Conyngham Avenue would be best suited for commercial use.
