WBRE News Irons Out Wrinkled Floor - Monday, March 31, 2008 at 6:21PM EST

WBRE News is on the side of a Bradford County couple who hit a brick wall when their new flooring didn't live up to its guarantee. So they turned to consumer reporter Jeff Chirico who helped them get results.

The Kulick's paid more than $800 for a new easy to care for fiber flooring --but within months, it started developing wrinkles. And after fixing them twice, the company wouldn't come back and the Kulick's turned to WBRE News.

This picture shows one of several large wrinkles in the flooring of the Kulick's Wysox home. "When you walk in the house it looks absolutely terrible."

Country Carpet Outlet in Ulster Township sold the Tarkett Fiber-Flooring and came to fix it at least twice within the first year. But when the ripples reappeared a third time, the store told Suzanne and Ed to wait. "They said they're going to get a hold of Tarkett and see what they can do." They waited months. The wrinkles got larger and the Kulick's worried their elderly visitors might trip.

Ed Kulick says "i said let’s try Jeff. He gets people's problems corrected down in the valley, let’s see if we give you a ring." WBRE News called Country Carpet numerous times. No one ever returned our calls. But the pressure seemed to have worked --and the store finally agreed to replace the Tarkett flooring with whatever the Kulick's chose.

Tony Bahr says “as for the wrinkling we don't know what caused it."Bahr, son of Country Carpet's owner, says they fixed any installation flaws and blames the wrinkles on poor Tarkett product. Nonetheless, the outlet replaced the flooring.“We made nothing on it and lost the installation. Probably $300. No big deal. We just wanted to see them happy."

Kulick's are thrilled with their new higher quality Congoleum flooring laid just before their big Easter dinner."If it wasn't for you guys, WBRE. You're on our side. We thank you again."

We called Tarkett but they claim it’s not the product but faulty installation.
