EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- It's 65 years late, but a Pennsylvania Patriot is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

John Bruno got his "Bronze Star" Thursday. The Edwardsville man won the medal for his heroic efforts during World War II.

The army veteran was responsible for getting two troop carriers to safety. There were being attacked by German panzer tanks at the "Battle of the Bulge."

Many men owe their lives to Bruno. His son says his father was always humble. Robert Bruno said, "Ive always asked him about that day, but he's not the type to talk about it. He's not for the fanfare."

Bruno had a distinguished military career. He was at the beaches of Normandy in France and fought in several other battles.
