Wagner's Stationery to Close Doors

Wagner's Stationery to Close Doors - Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 3:20PM EST

Lewisburg, Union County-
After 60 years in business, a prominent family-owned store in Lewisburg is closing its doors.

Phil Wagner says it’s with mixed emotions that he’s decided to shut down the stationery store his father, Mark, opened in 1949.

The store is currently holding a liquidation sale, with items marked up to 75% off.

Wagner says competition and a slow economy led to the decision.

He noted, “People have been coming in here for years. We’ve developed friendships, relationships. I’m not leaving on my own accord. It’s a case of dollars and cents. Business has gotten to the point in downtown Lewisburg where it no long pays me to have a retail store.”

Wagner’s Stationery will remain open until June 20th. After that, Phil Wagner says he’ll continue to operate an office supply company out of his home in Mifflinburg on a part-time basis.
