TOBYHANNA, MONROE COUNTY - Water conservation lessons flowed through Clear Run Intermediate School Wednesday.
"I thought it was really great," said teacher Barb Parzych.
It was a "Waterwaze Festival" put on by the Monroe County Conservation District. Allison Owczarczak from the Pocono Environmental Education Center said, "It's a great thing to be able to go into the schools especially when some school districts don't have a whole lot of money for field trips."
The kids didn't just watch the lessons. They also got hands on involved. For example they used spray bottles to simulate rain that showed run off on a model. 6th Grader Jakyla Wallace said,"It was very experimental and it taught me so many things."
Another lesson allowed kids to get their hands dirty. They designed a town around a stream in a water table. When the stream ran high - kids learned how what they do and build impacts the earth. 6th Grader Robert Holley said, "I think that was fun."
It was fun and educational. Students told us the lessons encouraged them to change some of their wasteful ways. Jakyla said, "I think i should do more better with like - with the safety and the recycling thing and the pollution."
Holley added,"I'm gonna change like how my family doesn't recycle."
They are small drops of change that could add up to make a waterfall of a difference in their future.
