WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- A Weatherly woman considered the mastermind behind a home invasion scheme is headed to prison. Amy Hansen-Groninger pleaded guilty in Luzerne County court. The plea finally ends the victim's 2-and-a-half year pursuit of justice.

Ed Maranuk of Hazleton said, "I feel a lot more relieved now."

It's been a long journey of justice for Ed Maranuk -- ever since that night in April 2007 when several individuals showed up at his Hazleton home. Maranuk said, "And they certainly didn't come to pay us a social visit. They came with baseball bats, knives, duct tape, safety glasses, jack hammers, bars to rob us."

Maranuk and his girlfriend called police to the scene before the would-be intruders could break-in. All of the co-defendants were convicted and sentenced except one -- the woman accused of the home invasion.

That ended Monday afternoon with a guilty plea from 40-year-old Amy Sue Hansen-Groninger of Weatherly. The crime included setting a fire at Maranuk's Industrial Truck and Equipment business in White Haven to lure him out of his house that night.

Groninger could have received a prison sentence of up to 17 years on the arson and robbery conspiracy charges. Instead, the deal gets her 3-months behind bars, followed by a year of house arrest.

Her lawyers tried to cut a deal that would have avoided any prison time, but Maranuk balked. The prosecution and defense talked for hours Monday before settling on a sentence. "Naturally, we would wish that she got more time than that as the others did but it's all coming together and trying to put some closure on this and put it behind us because our lives haven't been the same," said Maranuk.

Hansen-Groninger must report to prison October 1st. Hansen-Groninger will serve her prison time either in Luzerne County or Carbon County. She will apply for 40-hours per week work release.
