Well Known Holy Redeemer Student Killed in Crash - Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at 05:48AM EST
EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY- The Holy Redeemer High School community in Luzerne County is in mourning after a well known student was killed in a crash.
The accident happened on Northampton Street in Edwardsville around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon. Police say an SUV with three teenagers in it crashed into a pole.
The student who died has been identified as Ian Pope. Pope was a Junior and played on the Holy Redeemer soccer team.
The coach and fellow students are stunned by the loss of their friend and fellow classmate. Soccer coach Robert Hughes said, “Holy Redeemer suffered a great loss. Ian was a great person, a great soccer player and a great human being."
Friend Vincent Sperdto said, “It’s shocking when you lose one of your best friends. It’s shocking losing him."
Two other students who were also juniors at Holy Redeemer High School were also hurt in the crash.
Grief counselors will be available at the school from 9 A. M. to 12 P. M. Wednesday. | |
