West Nile Spraying-Columbia County

West Nile Spraying-Columbia County - Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 1:52PM EST

Thursday, Jul 31, 2008 @ 01:52pm EST

COLUMBIA COUNTY- Weather permitting the Department of Environmental Protection and Columbia County West Nile staff will apply treatments during the evening of Thursday, July 31, in Benton Borough and North Centre Township to control adult mosquito populations. Samples taken by local officials and DEP in these targeted areas have shown adult mosquito populations that can carry the West Nile virus. The treatments will be administered via truck to spray targeted areas in the two municipalities. The unit dispenses fine aerosol droplets of Biomist 3+15 at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. The mist stays aloft and kills mosquitoes on contact.
