WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- Pennsylvania's statewide smoking ban doesn't take effect for a little more than a week..
But in West Pittston they're getting ready for it.
The community is also looking to keep the area beautiful.
On Tuesday night, the city made ash trays available to citizens and businesses to help keep their community clean.
West Pittston is also distributing ash dispensers around the city as part of the keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Campaign.
West Pittston Mayor Bill Goldsworthy told us Gerrity's Market, Penn Mart and Turkey Hill are joining forces with West Pittston to battle cigarette litter.
"We will give away these pocket ashtrays to any adult smokers who purchase cigarettes, the whole purpose is not to throw cigarettes on the streets or sidewalks."
The ash trays are available at the borough building on Exeter Avenue in West Pittston.
The smoking ban in Pennsylvania officially goes into effect on September 11th. | |
