WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- West Pittston Borough Council unanimously passed an ordinance banning tobacco products in parks and around municipal buildings.

Neighbors in the crowd applauded the vote.

Parks will soon be smoke free. Most neighbors we spoke with were happy to here about the new law.

Word of the anti-smoking movement comes the same day lawmakers in Harrisburg overcame a couple-years' hurdle in a public smoking ban debate. The proposed law is expected to make it to the governor's desk shortly. Governor Rendell aides say he'll sign it.

The law is chock full of exemptions. Certain areas of casinos will still be game for smoking. Taverns that do 20 percent or less food sales and private clubs will be exempt from the law.
