STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY - Walgreens Pharmacy hosted a flu shot clinic at the Stroud Mall Wednesday. Patricia Fritz of Stroudsburg got her first ever flu shot there. She said, "Because I work with the public."

Fritz is a manager at Dairy Queen and Orange Julius. She said her customers aren't always clean. She explained, “They hand you their money after they sneezed into it or coughed on it – kinda dirty.”

She decided to get her first flu shot this year because she's hear a lot about Swine Flu. "It's a little scary," she explained.

Lots of people will get the flu shot for the first time this year. Walgreen's Pharmacist Bruce Parola said he's busier than ever. He explained, “There seems to be an increased awareness of the dangers of these viruses.”

Last year Parola gave about 240 seasonal flu shots. This year he expects to give more than 600. He said, “The annual flu shot is something everyone should get.”

But he warns, the seasonal flu shot will not protect you against swine flu. He explained, “The H1N1 – as it’s called – will be a different vaccination.” That vaccination should be available in October.

If you want protection against seasonal flu and H1N1 you will need two separate shots.

Seasonal flu shots usually aren't available until October. But this year doctors and pharmacists started giving it earlier. That way they can focus on giving Swine Flu shots next month.
