TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY - When the sun broke through the clouds Monday, many people got outside as fast as they could. That's good news for the Pocono's biggest industry, tourism.
When you're a mom with three kids cooped up inside, a few weeks of rain and clouds can feel like an eternity. "I can't believe it. I have never had a June this cold and miserable," explained Allie Lakin of Stroudsburg.
So when the sun finally came ouf of hiding, Allie packed up her kids and headed outside to Camelbeach Water Park in Tannersville. She said, "It's so nice. Finally. We've been inside so many days I'm running out of rainy day activities." Her three year old son Tyler added, "The sunshine lets me go down the water."
The kids shared a mini beach area with just a few friends, including Brandi Coover's children. Coover said, "We like it when it's not as busy. The boys can enjoy it a little more. It's not as many people."
Parents and kids might like it, but Camelbeach managers aren't as enthusiastic. Spokesman Ricky Durst said, "It certainly hasn't been the weather we like to have to start the season." He said the unseasonable weather washed out hopes for big crowds but he's optimistic the sun will now stick around. "This weather is just going to be a little blip on the radar and we'll look back in another couple weeks in July and August and be saying 'geez we wouldn't mind as low day once in a while,'" said Durst.
The Lakin family hopes he's right because the kids don't want to spend the summer indoors.
