Wilkes-Barre Cold Weather Workers

Wilkes-Barre Cold Weather Workers - Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 6:07PM EST

We're no stranger to cold in our area, and as cold weather workers tell me, handling it is all about how you dress.

At public square in Wilkes-Barre, it's cold...really cold.

As they take down a nativity scene in public square, city DPW workers tell us how they stay warm.

"you just got to keep moving is the main thing and you know, you want to make sure your heads covered also. You know, you don't want to lose heat," says one worker.

"you just gotta stay warm, even though it's cold out you just got to stay as warm as you can," says another worker.

"gloves, hats, socks, thermals, you get it all. Layers," one worker says.

And layered up is how these workers dressed, while picking up trash in the city.

Most of that trash was, you guessed it, frozen.

"mostly everything was. We had hot chocolates, and numerous coffees all frozen. All the papers are stuck to the ground and everything. It makes the work a little difficult, but we managed," says Ray Kowaleski.

Tom Wilson of Wilkes-Barre says, "you dress in layers. Everybody, dress in layers and you got it made."

That's what advice Eric Evans has as well, while waiting for a bus.

"it's horrible out here. It's freezing, cold temperatures, it's bad," says Evans.

His solution, like many here, is dress for whatever mother nature holds.
