WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Police officers in Wilkes-Barre gathered Friday to remember their fallen brothers. A 21-gun salute was just one part of the memorial service held in front of the Wilkes-Barre Police Department headquarters.

The event coincides with National Police Memorial Week. Flags are also flying at half-staff because Friday is peace officers memorial day.

Wilkes-Barre Police Chief Gerald Dessoye said, "This is a significant ceremony for all police officers. This is how we honor our brothers and sisters who've passed before us whether they died on active duty or in retirement."

Friday's observance included a memorial roll call of fallen officers, a bag piper playing taps and a speech by Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tom Leighton.
