WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY - The sound of bagpipes filled the air Sunday afternoon at Wilkes-Barre's 30th Annual Saint Patrick's Parade.

The Penn York Highlanders Scottish Bagpipe Band was one of more than 20 pipe and marching bands, dance groups and entertainment groups performing along the parade route.

Attending the parade in the Diamond City is a tradition for Amanda Pachick. She's made every one. "30-years now. My parents have been taking me since I was little. I'll be 30 this summer, so it's my 30th parade," said Pachick.

And she's in good company. Good Irish company. "Everybody's Irish on Saint Paddy's Day," said Joanne Monahan of Sugar Notch.

Making the parade each year is also a must for her. "We all came as a family every since we were kids," said Monahan.

For some, it's the start of a new tradition. Scott Cannon brought his 3-year-old daughter, Lily, to the Wilkes-Barre parade for the first time -- with plans to return in the future. "Absolutely. She's having a great time. She'll enjoy it even more next year," said Cannon.

The Kerry Dancers entertained this year's crowd along the parade route with some traditional Irish step dancing. It's hard to narrow down to just one thing what's the favorite part of the parade. "The floats, the dogs, the bagpipes. I like the bagpipes," said Susan Schnell of Wilkes-Barre.

For others, it's that big green baseball mascot -- the Phillie Phanatic -- causing chaos in the crowd and bringing plenty of smiles to kids of all ages. The sight of so many kids brings back a flood of memories. "It reminds me of when I was small," said Pachick. "My parents used to bring me. Used to go over Boscov's and they would have the Irish singers in the auditorium upstairs and that's what we did."

And while some parade day traditions may change, one thing is clear -- so many people love a parade.
