WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Freshman student Edward Maye was stabbed after a scuffle with two would-be robbers, according to police.

Maye was transported from the scene in the 200 block of South River Street to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital. Police said late Thursday night Maye would likely be released from the hospital.

We're told Maye fought with his attackers after they grabbed his cell phone. Police said he was then stabbed with what's believed to be a screwdriver.

Only hours later, police reported a second robbery in the 100 block of South Franklin Street. Just before 8:30 p. m., police said a young woman was approached by two men who demanded her purse. She was unharmed.

Police are determining if the two incidents are connected.
