MONROE COUNTY - Wilkes University will soon expand into the Poconos. The school will offer an accelerated business degree program in Monroe County. You can complete your degree in just about two and a half years.
Laurie Gonzalez is the perfect candidate for the new accelerated business degree program. "I think it's a great opportunity," she said.

The program is for people who have at least 30 college credits and are at least 25 years old. Laurie started college but never finished. She now works in Real Estate. But she would like to finish her education. She said, "Especially in this economy with what's going on. I think people need to change their careers."

And it's not just for people who want to change careers. John Grando who owns Venuto's Pizza in Stroudsburg is interested. He said, "The more knowledge you have about business, the better off you are in business."

You will soon be able to receive that knowledge in the Mount Pocono Area. Wilkes University will begin advanced business classes in July. To get people interested in the program the school will give away the first four class credits for free.

Students will meet at an area high school. Officials are not yet sure which one. Troy Adair is organizing the classes, he told Eyewitness News this is a great time to get a business degree. He explained, "All the local banks and regional banks that haven't gotten into problems are going to a lot more risk assessment, risk monitoring."
