Williamsport Community Shaken By Deadly Shooting - Monday, March 22, 2010 at 04:04AM EST

Monday March 22 2010
Police in Williamsport are asking for the public's help after a deadly shooting in the city Sunday night. It happened at Brandon Place, just across the street from a public park. Neighbors sprang into action, quickly calling police after hearing about half a dozen gunshots just after 11pm. Neighbor Andrew Crane noted, "(I) came outside and heard the guy breathing in between the neighbor's SUV and car. We came back out to help him and he was deceased." Investigators now tell us 25-year-old Joshua Lee was killed by the deadly gunfire. According to police, the victim was found slumped over next to an SUV in a driveway on Brandon Place. A garage and a house just a few feet down the street were riddled with bullet holes from the shooting. One witness claims he saw a man running west away from the scene of the crime just seconds after the shots rang out. Neighbors say they're not surprised by the violence, but add that it is a very real cause for concern. Joni Boyles, of Montoursville, walks through Brandon Park every day on her lunch break. She explained, "Well, it worries me. I don't like to see stuff like that in this area. It makes you wonder about your own safety when you're out and about." Crane said, "Having kids, yeah, definitely. It definitely worries me." People we spoke with noted that Brandon Park- just across the street from the crime scene- is heavily used, especially by children. Most suggested that more vigilance is needed to help reduce crime in the area, whether by human or electronic means. Boyles added, "I see cops out all the time so there's that. I don't know, they're talking about putting the cameras up, maybe if they extend that a little bit more." Williamsport police want to talk to a man who's been labeled a person of interest in the case. He's described as a white man, about 58, with a medium build. He has light hair and possibly a goatee, and was last seen wearing a light colored hoodie. If you have any information, you're urged to call Williamsport police.
