Williamsport Residents Asked to Conserve Water

Williamsport Residents Asked to Conserve Water - Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 6:18PM EST

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY- The city of Williamsport is the latest community in our area to ask residents to start conserving water.

The Williamsport reservoir is now less than 50 percent capacity because of drought conditions.

Water Authority officials are asking residents to voluntarily cut water usage by up to 15 percent.

So that means, no watering lawns or washing vehicles.

Authority officials say even though there has been some precipitation, it hasn't been enough.

Walter Nicholson, Williamsport Water Authority, said, "Small amounts of rain won't really help us very much until we get a two inch rain storm or several times in the course of several weeks."

While there may be no end in sight for the drought, city officials say at this point they are not considering using water from the Susquehanna River.
