Wind Causes Power & Other Problems

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY - Saturday's windy weather caused commotion all over our area. Thousands had their power knocked out and a windmill came crashing down in one Wilkes-Barre neighborhood.

PPL reported more than 18,000 folks across eastern PA lost power at some point Saturday.

And the blustery conditions toppled a windmill from the roof of a house on Dana Street in Wilkes-Barre. Work crews had to bring-in a crane to remove the structure.

This isn't the first time the windmill caused concern for neighbors. Back in February a blade flew off the windmill and hit the house next door.

Doreen O'Day lives there with her family. She says when it gets windy she gets worried. "I was petrified because everyday when it was a windy day we didn't use our dining room to eat because we were afraid that it would come down and I have three children. I was afraid, you know, for the loss of a child or my husband or myself."

The house with the windmill is now vacant. Its owner recently passed away.
