LARKSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A witness says the gunman in an attempted burglary fired at a steel door and the bullet came back and hit him. The injured gunman is in the hospital.
“I just saw him writhing on the floor covered in blood," said witness Charlene Grivele.
She lives in an apartment above where a man was shot Sunday morning. She thought she heard fireworks until she ran downstairs. I wanna die. I wanna die. I wanna die. That's all he kept saying. I wanna die," she recalled.
Larksville and State Police investigators collected evidence in the entry way of the first floor apartment on East First Street. Larksville Police Officer Ian Byczek said, "All I can tell you is we got dispatched to a burglary in progress, which then changed into a fireworks complaints where somebody got injured and then a self-inflicted gunshot wound."
Neighbors say they saw the man walk from his car across the street carrying a big duffle bag. After the shooting they figured it must have been holding the shotgun. “Obviously he was trying to get into the house because he shot the door three times," said Grivele.
Charlene thinks the bullets bounced off the metal door and struck the gunman. However Officer Byczek said, “Right now it's uncertain. It’s being investigated. I have to speak with the victims now."
Charlene believes the victim knows the attacker and wonders if it's related to the arguing she heard from the apartment overnight.
