Wolf Township, Lycoming County-

Officials broke ground on a brand new assisted living community for local senior citizens Wednesday morning.

Developer Sterlyn May said, “We think it’s a beautiful location, a very pretty location, handy location, and we like the area.”

The Wolf Run Village Assisted Living Community will be the first facility of its kind in eastern Lycoming County.

May noted, “We did a lot of exploring, talked to a lot of people, you know, and they encouraged us that there was a need. And we’re in the business now, we have a personal care home now.”

That facility is in Luzerne County.

The new assisted living center here will be able to accommodate about 80 people. The May family says it will provide the highest standard of personal care services.

The six million dollar project is expected to bring about 20 full-time and 16 part-time jobs when construction is completed in the fall of 2009.

State Representative Garth Everett said, “I know a number of folks from this area that are excited that they’ll be able to get jobs here rather than having to drive further to do the kind of work that they do.”

Amy Ent runs a hair salon next door to where the new facility is being built. And while she’s excited about the prospect of new business, she’s also concerned about a major increase in traffic.

Ent explained, “Just concerned as far as the highway. There have been a lot of accidents recently on Route 220. So just concerned as far as the road goes for both our driveway, and the in and out.”

No word yet on whether any traffic pattern changes are planned for the entrance to the new facility.

Individual plots of land for new homes are also being sold adjacent to where the new facility will be built. A different developer is in charge of those projects.
