Woman Burned, Homes Destroyed in Jim Thorpe Fire - Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11:30AM EST

JIM THORPE, CARBON COUNTY -- A woman was badly burned and two homes were destroyed and another damaged in an early morning fire in Jim Thorpe, Carbon County.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of South Avenue just before 3:30 this morning. They spent several hours trying to knock down the flames.

Fire crews also had to battle bad weather with snow, ice and strong winds.

The elderly woman burned was take to Lehigh Valley Hospital and is said to be in critical condition.
