EXETER, LUZERNE COUNTY -- People living in the apartment complex off Schooley Avenue are in disbelief, after a woman was found dead here.

"It's very scary," said Catherine Pechal, "You see it on TV, but I never thought I'd see something like this here."

Pechal says her daughter and son-in-law found the body in their yard when he was leaving for work around 8am.

"He thought there was a bag of garbage out there, but then my daughter looked and saw a foot sticking out of the sleeping bag," Pechal added. "She told me the body was wrapped up in a sleeping bag and the head was covered up with a garbage bag."

Police arrived immediately -- talking with neighbors, photographing evidence, and driving someone off for questioning. A state police helicopter hovered above. Officials immediately called the death, "suspicious."

"We're looking for vehicles, we're looking for anything out of place," said Trooper Tom Kelly. "We're looking for anybody in this area that heard anything overnight, anybody who might've heard vehicles coming and going."

People told us they don't feel safe, and they want to see changes soon.

"The street lights don't work, they go out, and they're not replaced," said Krystle Patts, who's lived here for two years. "I don't want to live here anymore."

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified agreed, saying, "I think we need more security here, more lights, and more police enforcement than what we have."

They believe those things would keep their neighborhood from becoming a crime scene once again.

Until then, police need your help in finding more information. They ask anybody who knows something about this incident to call them at 697-2000. Also, the woman's car is missing, and they believe the person who took it could be involved with her death. That car is a 1997 Mercury Cougar, maroon in color, with license plate GST-4084.
