Woman Sentenced for Deadly DUI Crash

Woman Sentenced for Deadly DUI Crash - Friday, January 9, 2009 at 6:17PM EST

Williamsport, Lycoming County-

An Eagles Mere woman accused of killing a man whiling driving drunk learned her fate on Friday afternoon.

Family and friends of George Nace packed the courtroom in Lycoming County.

Nace, a long time Hughesville High School teacher and football coach, was killed in July of 2007 while driving along Route 220 in Penn Township.

According to prosecutors, Tresa Glassmyre was drunk behind the wheel when her car crossed lanes into the path of Nace’s truck.

Three other people, including Nace’s wife, Helen, were hurt in the crash.

Glassmyre pleaded no contest to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Kilgus said, “Today is the first day that the defendant said she was sorry or even admitted that she was in the car.”

A judge sentenced Glassmyre to 4–8 years in state prison.

Kilgus noted, “I would’ve liked a longer sentence. The Commonwealth feels these kinds of crimes should be dealt with harshly.”

Nace’s family had nothing to say to reporters as they walked out. But inside the courtroom, they painted a picture of a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who meant the world to everyone who knew him.

Kilgus added, “Many people contacted me and tried to support me in the prosecution of this case and wanted justice for this man. And he was loved in the community, I know that.”

Glassmyre will also be responsible for paying restitution to the victim’s family.
