SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- More than six months after plans were originally unveiled, work is underway to restore part of Nay Aug Park.
Workers were busy at Nay Aug Park Wednesday. They've just begun a project to restore Hanlon's Grove, a once popular picnic area, to its original glory.
Linda Trently of Scranton said, ŇI think itŐs a great idea. It'll improve the park more and more people will come. Now that the zoo is gone too, it'll be something different."
People who already use Nay Aug Park are happy to see the work. Jim Dixon said, ŇWe need it. We need a lot of things for the kids. There's too much trouble here in Scranton."
Workers from Jensen Plumbing and Heating are helping in the cause. They're installing a water line for the crown jewel of the project, a waterfall over these steps. ŇIts gonna be awesome. ItŐs gonna be -- I can't even say more of an improvement -- because itŐs such a big improvement thatŐs happened already, so its gonna be great," said Robert Jensen.
This is what Hanlon's Grove is expected to look like when all the work is finished. That could be in October.
Many hope Hanlon's Grove continues to bring people into Nay Aug. Tony Michaels said, ŇItŐs certainly going to improve the possibility of that. I don't know if itŐs going to be enough.Ó
Dixon added, ŇWhen they took the amusement park out of here, that was the end of Nay Aug, as far as I was concerned.Ó
The Hanlon's Grove project is costing more than $100,000. It was delayed because of fundraising efforts. The city of Scranton is paying for nearly half of the work. | | |
