NEW MILFORD TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY - Cold and bitter weather slammed into the area Monday morning. Most people woke up to single-digit temperatures, while in some places, the mercury was in the negative digits.

Mother nature threw a one-two punch at people in the northern tier Monday morning. Besides bone-chilling temperatures in New Milford Township, people also had to shovel a small amount of snow.

"I just went out to get the newspaper then came out earlier and shoveled a little bit and decided it was too cold. I went back in the house," Chuck Roessle of New Milford said.

Not everyone was so lucky. Many students had to wait outside for their buses after a two-hour delay. Dozens of districts delayed the start of classes.

"I'm ready for spring! I like spring because I really want to get a 4-wheeler to ride around on," Dustin Canfield said. Canfield is a current Blue Ridge student.

In the city of Wilkes-Barre, snow, wind and cold couldn't stop postal deliverymen Monday afternoon. Ron Sellers is from Wyoming borough and shared his secret to staying warm.

"You've just got to keep moving, keep moving and walk with a fast pace," Sellers said.

Bob Holley of McCarthy flowers also spent most of his time outdoors Monday delivering flowers with Valentine's Day quickly approaching.

"It's too cold for me. I dress in layers. I enjoy it when I'm in the van," Holley said.

Believe it or not, some people say they don't mind working outside in the cold weather. Whether it be trash collectors or newspaper deliverymen, they say it goes with the territory.

"For some people it's pretty unbearable. Some people find it very refreshing. Cold doesn't bother some people, I'm one of those people. I'm an outdoors-type person," Bob Capece of Scranton said.
