HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY - Some of the best known wrestlers took to the mats Saturday night in Wayne County for an event called the Honesdale Havoc, a wrestling fundraiser for the local YMCA.
"Events like this don't happen that often in Wayne County and the YMCA has been doing a lot of good things in this community and this is a good opportunity to do something good for the YMCA," Vince Benedetto of the Bold Gold Media Group said.
Six different matches, involving wrestlers like Jerry "The King" Lawler, Scotty Too Hotty and Velvet Sky thrilled fans for hours. Organizers say they got the idea for the pro-wrestling tournament from volunteers and the boro has been talking about the event for weeks.
A line of fans wrapped around the cafeteria just to pose for pictures with Sergeant Slaughter. Organizers say all of the money raised will go right back into helping the community.
"We're going to use it to sustain our operation and possibly put some of the proceeds towards some new technology at the "Y" and keep us updated and moving forward," spokeswoman Tina Hoehn said.
The Wayne County YMCA has been helping people in the community for the last 29 years. | | |
